Long Trail Day is a Hike-a-Thon for Vermont's Trails
We were excited to come together on Sept. 19th to participate in Long Trail Day Hike-a-Thon, a fundraiser supporting Green Mountain Club. As a maintaining section, we understand how hard it is to maintain the Long Trail System. Every donation—big or small—helps us reach our fundraising goal and directly impacts this important cause.
Our section celebrated by hosting three different hikes and a PARTY to celebrate the Long Trail.
These were our the hikes:
Emily Proctor Camp; Cooley Glen Loop, Lincoln - 13 miles.
This is a strenuous hike connecting the Emily Proctor Trail and Cooley Glen Trail via the Long Trail. The hike climbs over Mts Roosevelt and Wilson. Elevation gain is more than 2,000 feet. An early start is planned. Contact Ellen Cronan at (908) 595-2926
Sunset Ledge and Mt. Grant, Lincoln/Ripton ~ 8 miles.
Moderate out and back hike with great western views at Sunset ledge and then on to the Bread Loaf wilderness and Mt. Grant in the Vermont Presidential range. Elevation gain is about 1,200 feet. Contact Ken Corey at (802) 349-3733 or kencorey53@gmail.com.
Deer Leap, Bristol - 3.5 miles
This afternoon hike has an elevation gain of about 1,000 feet. First stop is at Deer Leap with beautiful views. On the way back we will stop at the ledges with views of Bristol and beyond. Please contact Ruth Penfield at ruthpenfield@gmail.com to register and for details, including start time and meeting location.
All are welcome at the after-party! Please join in at Hogback Mountain Brewing, 372 Rockydale Rd, Bristol, VT 05443, from 4pm - 7pm. We will gather to share stories of the day, of Long Trail adventures and to enjoy our collective company along the New Haven river.
This event is the primary fundraiser for trail maintenance and building for GMC. If you enjoy the trail please consider joining a hike and/or donating. Hike details can be found above and on our website calendar. Thank you so much for your support! Hope to see you on the trail!
